It is one of the few remaining title wetlands on the Southern California coast and is protected by the California Department of Fish and wildlife as an ecological reserve. Directions: exit I-5 at Poinsettia Lane in Carlsbad. Proceed east on Poinsettia for 0.3 miles, and turn right on Batiquitos Drive . Continue 0.5 mile, and turn right on Gabbiano Lane, which leads directly to Batiquitos Lagoon, nature center and trailhead. You can also access directions from GPS by entering destination as Batiquitos Lagoon nature preserve or foundation.
Parking lot is small, but multiple opportunities to park on the street are available. Please meet at the trailhead.
