Hike Description: The Santa Ysabel Open Space Preserve is as rich in biological and cultural resources as it is in scenic beauty. It is a part of the original Mexican Rancho Santa Ysabel land grant from 1844. The Nature Trail hike ascends from the Visitor Center to the crest of the hill where it connects to the coast to crest trails headed toward Vulcan Mountain. From here we take the West Vista Trail with beautiful views west into the Santa Ysabel West Preserve. Then we wind along the crest of the hill and gradually descend and loop back to the Visitor Center.
It is worthwhile timing this hike to visit the nature Center before or after the hike if it is open. Rest Rooms available at the start and finish. Bring water, a snack and sturdy hiking boots.
