HIKE - Clevenger Canyon South
5.2 -mile hike, switch backing up South Clevenger Canyon. Rated somewhat strenuous because of the 1000 feet of elevation gain. The Clevenger Canyon South Trail offers impressive view not only of the canyon and the San Pasqual Valley but also of the ocean to the west and mountains to the east, especially on clear days. It also gives one the chance to sit in the "cat bird's" seat and watch the world go by a thousand feet below. There are actually two wire mesh seats side by side high up on a boulder at the top of the mountain.
Wine tasting afterwards at the lovely Guejito Winery nearby. Food is served at the winery or bring a snack or a lunch. Winery is located at 17224 San Pasqual Valley Road, Escondido about 3 miles past the Safari Park.
This trail is the fourth hike that is a part of the 2025 San Dieguito River Park Challenge
Good hiking boots, poles highly recommended, plenty of water (32 oz or more) and a snack. No restrooms. the trail is somewhat rutted and there are a few large rock steps to maneuver up and down.
Small Trailhead parking is located right off the right side of Highway 78 about 3 miles past the intersection of Highway 78 and Bandy Canyon Road. Carpools will be arranged because of the limited parking.
Rain or temperatures below 45 degrees cancels.
Look for this structure at the top of the mountain
