In my last message I talked about the value of social interaction to our overall health and welfare. Well nothing has changed about that conclusion but have you changed anything to improve your social interaction. Of course there are some members who are active in everything and can do no more. But some of you are not taking full advantage of all the things Get Off Your Rockers has to offer. There are many reasons but also many solutions.
I know that some of you have trouble navigating the website. If you are logged in, there is plenty of help from Club Express by calling the number at the bottom of the home page. Or you can email or phone an Activity Leader for more information about the activity that interests you.
Perhaps some of you are reluctant to attend functions by yourself. This should not be a worry. Rockers are very friendly people. Here is what you do. You arrive at the event and walk up to the first person that you see and say “Hi, I'm Jane Doe. What is your name? Can you tell me more about this event? Rockers will be more than happy to assist you and you have a built-in conversation starter.
I understand that some of you would like to participate in shorter walks on paved surfaces. Well we hear you. Wexers has changed their name to Walkers to be more clear about what they do. They walk on Wednesday evenings and you can choose your own distance. You will most likely find someone else who will enjoy your pace and then meet for dinner to enjoy some friendly socialization afterward.
Dave Dohren has included some shorter city walks that you may like as part of his hiking activity. And keep your eyes peeled for a new social activity which will include a short morning walk followed by lunch.
So if you are not participating much, get off your rocker and take a look at that calendar again. Try something new. We look forward to seeing you.
To get the absolute most enjoyment out of your club, volunteer as an Activity Leader. You will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with many other club members and learn how to fully enjoy all that our website has to offer.
We are currently in need of a Cultural Events Activity Leader and an assistant to help with the Wednesday evening walking group. Contact Vice President Cindy Johansen to take advantage of one of these wonderful opportunities
