This out and back Del Dios Gorge Trail is a 5 mile portion of the San Dieguito River Park that parallels Lake Hodges, passes by the Dam and wanders down the San Dieguito River Gorge. About 500 feet of elevation change. The route has wonderful views of the Lake and traverses through a CA Coastal Sage Scrub habitat. Those that wish can join the group for lunch at the historic Hernandez Hideaway Restaurant if it remains open. Study hiking shoes, poles optional, snack and plenty of liquid hydration. Porta potty at start.
Trail head Location: We will meet in the parking area across from Hernandez’ Hideaway located at 19320 Lake Drive Escondido CA. This location is just off Del Dios Hiway S-6, that can be accessed from the east by taking the Via Rancho Parkway exit off I – 15 and going east about two miles to Lake Drive. The access route from the west is Del Dios Hiway through Rancho Santa Fe to Lake Drive.
