Description:
Another hidden gem of a hike through the oak riparian habit along Penasquitos Creek. The 4 mile hike is out and back with less than 200 feet of elevation gain making it an easy jaunt. This less traveled portion of the proposed 70 mile Trans-County Trail system from Anza Borrego to the Pacific starts at the Penasquitos Recreation Center (GPS 12350 Black Mountain Road) and meanders along the creek to the Knott Memorial Grove.
Wear water resistant hiking shoes as there may be some muddy trails and water/bridge crossings if there has been recent rains, bring plenty of water and we will stop for a snack at the Memorial Grove. Poles not necessary but bring them if you need them. Rest rooms in the Rec Center at the beginning of the hike.
Directions: Exit I – 15 at mercy Road and go one mile to the intersection with Black Mountain Road. Turn right onto Black Mountain and then turn left at the next light onto Canyonside Park Drive. Take an immediate right toward the Recreation Center and park in the first few parking spaces available. (GPS 12350 Black Mountain Road)
