About this event
HIKE - ROSE CANYON
The relatively easy hike is an out and back dirt trail that has less than 300 feet of elevation gain. The group will have a choice to complete the full 5 miles, or an option would be to turn around earlier and do fewer miles.
This canyon is one of the many local canyons that San Diego has set aside to display the county's many different habits: chaparral, coastal sage scrub, riparian and oak woodlands. Louis Rose utilized this canyon for ranching activities in the 1850s.
Directions: Meet in the Staff parking lot at the University City High School (6949 Genesee Road). No rest rooms, hiking poles may be useful, bring water and a snack, poles optional. Trail is a wide dirt/gravel road that may be wet or have small water crossings if there have been recent rains.
