La Orilla Trail begins on the east side of San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve and continues westward for about 3.5 miles. Enjoy a stroll through four distinct plant communities: from the shade of riparian woodlands, farther down to the marsh, along hillside chaparral and coastal sage scrub. Listen for the tapping of woodpeckers, or watch for mule deer grazing vegetation along creek banks.

No facilities at the main trailhead.

Therefore, we will go a short distance AFTER THE HIKE to San Dieguito County Park for bathrooms and picnic facilities. There are picnic tables but you might be more comfortable in your own chair.

Bring a nosh while we relax and visit.

The entrance that we will use for San Dieguito County Park is located on El Camino Real, 0.1 miles past Highland Road on the right.  We will meet at Zone 5.

At the entrance it says there is a $3.00 charge.  However, Seniors are free.  The ranger told me that we should just come right in and there will be no problem. There is parking at the zone.

DIRECTIONS TO San Elijo Lagoon, La Orilla Trail
